This painting has been on the ‘drawing board’ for a while, but is now finally finished. Reference photo used with kind permission from Aruba Racing. If you’re interested – the work in progress shots can be found on my FB page https://www.facebook.com/AnArtThing
Unfortunately I couldn’t make it down to Jerez for the weekend 18-20th October 2013 for the final round of the World Superbike Championship. My husband, however, was lucky enough to be there to see Tom Sykes win the World Championship.
Here are just a few of the photos taken that weekend: My husband and Carlos Checa; the superclean trucks of Team Alstare Ducati; Javi Forés; Ayrton Badovini’s garage; outside the Kawasaki garage; the starting grid; Jonathan Rea and Leon Haslam; in the pits; and the starting grid of the Supersport race.
Here is my finished painting of world superbike racer, Ayrton Badovini, on this year’s Team Alstare Ducati, on which he has had a pole position and a third place podium. He was 2010 FIM Superstock 1000 champion winning 9 out of the 10 races. (We were in the Grandstand at Circuit Ricardo Tormo, Valencia that year & watched him win.)
A very big thank you to Team Alstare for permission to use the original photograph taken by Kel Edge, Team Alstare photographer.
Another good afternoon of painting – and this is coming along really well. The shadow of the bike on the tarmac needs a little more work, but otherwise I’m happy with the background. I have added colour all over with the reds and blacks really making the bike stand out now.
Next update will be with this painting finished – hopefully this weekend!
Been a busy few hours – I’ve added a couple of layers of paint to the background, still of which is not finished. I need to add a little more blue to the top and then add a bit of ‘tarmac’ at the bottom so it doesn’t look like the bike is floating in the air!! I have added a light colour to the bike and rider, so I don’t get confused when I get down to doing the detail.
